The above pictures feature both pine horizontal fencing and cedar horizontal fencing. The cedar (darker color wood) is stained to the customer's liking. It's truly a gorgeous look.

There are many fence companies installing them with metal posts, metal framing, or wood posts. The horizontal fence makes any backyard look that much better, and is definitely a conversation starter. You are guaranteed to see modern horizontal fences installed everywhere in the next 3-5 years based on current market trends.

Typically fences are constructed with vertical pickets that go alongside the fence posts. In a horizontal fence, the pickets run horizontally, and really aren't considered "pickets" at that point, but boards. Horizontal fencing is often referred to as "horizontal board". One thing that should be noted is cost. The cost of a horizontal fence is significantly more expensive due to the tongue & groove boards that need to be installed. They are a higher quality material that are manufactured in smaller volume versus your standard fence pickets. Hence, the cost is usually double than that of a standard horizontal wood fence.

How much does horizontal fencing cost? Well it all depends on the overall linear footage, type of material, etc. Typically horizontal fencing is our most expensive option as it is a specialty design. Not only is it a special design and takes more man hours to build, it also requires more expensive materials. The tongue and groove boards are similar to that of deck boards and are manufactured to a higher standard than regular fence pickets. For this reason, materials are usually double the cost over a regular vertical fence.
